Welsh Sports Personality of the Year 2012: Jade Jones At just 19 years old Jade Jones won Britain’s first ever Taekwondo gold medal at the Olympic Games and was an iconic figure for Team GB.

2nd Place: Dan Lydiate The Wales rugby union international was a key performer in the team that won the Six Nations with Dan claiming the Player of the Tournament award.

3rd Place: Geraint Thomas Geraint defended his Beijing Olympic track title after claiming gold in the track team pursuit at the London games, breaking the world record on the way.

Arthur Wood of Swansea Rifle Club won the BBC Cymru Wales Unsung Hero 2012 award and will be representing Wales at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2012 awards in London on December 16.

2012 Welsh Team of the Year: Wales Rugby Team the Wales rugby union team had a dominant Grand Slam triumph in 2012, their third Six Nations clean sweep in eight years.

Carwyn James Award for Junior Sports Personalities: Leuan Lloyd & Elinor Barker Lloyd competed at London 2012 in the 200m freestyle, narrowly missing out on a place in the semi-finals, and also as part of the 4x200m relay team that finished sixth in the final. Elinor claimed the Junior Time Trial World Championship on the road in New Zealand and the Junior European Individual Pursuit and Team Pursuit titles on the track in Portugal during 2012.

BBC Cymru Wales Lifetime Achievement Award: Lynn Davies The 70-year-old Olympic long jump great won gold at the 1964 Tokyo Games, holding the Welsh and British records for over 35 years.

  1. Jade Jones is a deserving winner but Dan Lydiate 2nd? Not sure about that. Other rugby players have had better years in a very mixed year for Welsh rugby. Gareth Bale and Geraint Thomas have had better years than Lydiate.

    • Won player of the tournament in a resounding Grand Slam for (team of the year) Welsh rugby side. Should be placed above Bale but agree maybe not second. Would have been nice to see Mark Colbourne up there.
